What Walthamstow housing means for your carpets

Yes, provided the temperature and the chemistry are right. Water is not what harms wool. Heat, mechanical agitation and alkaline products are, and a hired machine loaded with supermarket shampoo delivers all three at once. Kept cool and pH-neutral, the same method is perfectly safe.
My carpet has not been cleaned in years. Is it too late?
Usually not. Soil that has been sitting there still comes out. What does not come back is fibre that grit has physically worn down in the traffic lanes, and after several years there is normally some of that. Expect a large improvement rather than a reset.
How do I know if my rug is wool or viscose?
Wool springs back when you squeeze the pile and feels warm. Viscose, often sold as art silk, is very shiny, cool to the touch, and goes stiff and yellowish when damp. If a rug looks like silk but was inexpensive, assume viscose and keep it away from water.
